People in the News (Aug. 7, 2009)

Ashley LaRose, a business administration and political science student, was awarded the William G. McGowen Scholarship and the Portland Junior College Scholarship at the University of Southern Maine.  LaRose, a 2007 Cape Elizabeth High School graduate, is the daughter of David and Stefanie LaRose of Cape Elizabeth. 


Courtney Babbidge, a health fitness student, was awarded the Chris Alice Community Service Scholarship at the Univerity of Southern Maine.  Courtney, a 2007 graduate of South Portland High School, is the daughter of Cindy Olsen of Yarmouth and Craig Babbidge of South Portland.


Annie Elizabeth Reiner, daughter of Ted Reiner and Susan Lakari of South Portland, received a Bachelor of Arts in English May 24 from
Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.


Julia Marie Edwards of South Portland received her master’s degree in diplomacy and international relations from the John C. Whitehead School at Seton Hall University in May.  In 2004, she was named Outstanding Senior at the University of Southern Maine. This month she will begin a 10-month teaching assistantship as a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Oslo in Norway.


Shelley Marie Antonio of Cape Elizabeth graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Stonehill College in Eaton, Mass. Other graduates include Amanda P. Card of South Portland with a Bachelor of Arts degree and Nicholas Alexander Meyer of South Portland  with a Bachelor of Arts degree.


Carey Spear of South Portland, received a Master of Public Health from the Rollins School of Public Health of Emory University in Atlanta, Ga., at its 164th commencement ceremony on May 11.


Stonehill College recently named the following residents to its dean’s list for the spring 2009 semester: Cape Elizabeth resident Shelley M. Antonio, a member of the class of 2009; South Portland resident Amanda P. Card, a member of the class of 2009; South Portland resident Nicholas A. Meyer, a member of the class of 2009 and Cape Elizabeth resident Clare P. Stack, a member of the class of 2011. To qualify for the Dean’s List at Stonehill, students must have a semester grade point average of 3.50 or better and must have completed successfully all courses for which they were registered.
