Letter: Speed tables mean slow down (July 3, 2009)
Editor:
Drivers of South Portland: If you are driving on a street that has speed tables, and you feel you must apply your brakes when driving over the speed table, then you are driving too fast. The speed tables are there to set the speed for the whole street, not just the table itself. Please keep this in mind, especially in neighborhoods. The city’s elementary summer recreation camp is at Small School this year. If you are driving to and from Small School, please obey the posted speed limit (15 mph) and watch out for kids, dogs, cats, roller-skaters, cyclists, ball-chasers, and games of tag. Also, several streets around Thompson Street do not have sidewalks, so extra caution is critical as children may likely be in the street.
