Letter: Save Willard Beach not just for wealthy (March 20, 2009)

Editor:

I thank Mr. Sweeney [“Wilder monument message is important,” March 13] for clearing up some questions regarding the Wilder monument at Willard Beach. I take exception to his attempt to classify the Save Willard Beach supporters as a movement for South Portland’s “wealthiest residents.” I’m an animal lover, not wealthy, don’t agree with Mr. Crosby’s politics, but have never enjoyed hearing dog owners screaming at their pets on the beach while I try to take a relaxing stroll by the ocean. I feel the screaming would be cut to a minimum if the leash law was enforced on the beach as it is required in all other public places.

Only dogowners "screaming"..........not parents calling wandering children ? Not gulls screeching ? Not children running around playing and screaming at the top of their lungs ? Not low flying aircraft, fog horns, ships ang tug boat sirens ? Only dog owners "screaming" disturb you ?
