Letter: Cape Elizabeth will ‘benefit greatly’ from Jim Walsh (Jan. 9, 2009)
I am writing to express my support for Jim Walsh and his candidacy for Cape Elizabeth Town Council.
I have had the privilege and pleasure of working with Jim for the past few years at Weichert, Realtors – Waterglen Group in Portland. Jim has a strong work ethic, staying on task until the job is done. He has an impressive talent for developing creative solutions to complex problems and I find his positive, up-beat attitude inspiring.
Our cities and towns face very difficult decisions as declining property values and state contributions result in decreased revenues while energy and health costs continue to increase. Jim has been a resident of Cape Elizabeth for more than 25 years and his four children have all been through Cape schools. He understands and appreciates the distinctive character of Cape Elizabeth and the delicate balance between maintaining the quality of education and town services while keeping the tax rate manageable.
Jim’s experience as supermarket/retail executive has given him real world skills to deal with conflicting budget demands. His experience as a teacher and principal give him valuable insight into how school departments can be effective and efficient. As broker/owner of a real estate agency he has demonstrated his ability to run a successful business based on exceptional service to our clients. He is a successful businessman with a unique combination of skills, temperament and attitude that will serve the town well. Cape Elizabeth will benefit greatly by electing Jim Walsh to the town council.
