Sanford police said a 2003 H2 Humvee, valued at $30,000 was stolen from a Sherburne Street, Sanford home Oct. 7.
Deputy Chief Gordon Littlefield said the keys were not in the vehicle, but 15 and 17-year-old females entered the residence to get the keys.
He said a teletype notification was sent out and the On-Star program tracked the car to South Portland at the intersection of Skillings Street and Pleasant Avenue.
South Portland Police Lt. Frank Clark said the Hummer was seen in the Thorton Heights area and then identified by a patrol car on Skillings Street, approaching Cash Corner. The driver did not stop when the patrol car attempted to pull them over and proceeded through Cash Corner where it crashed into the corner of a home at 280 Pleasant Road, he said.
After rolling onto its side from the impact, the Hummer caught fire with the juveniles inside, Clark said.
“One of them was transported to the hospital and evaluated,” he said. “They were treated for minor injuries.”
Clare said the driver, charged with receiving stolen property, driving to endanger, eluding an officer and driving without a license, was transported directly to Long Creek Youth Development Center.
The passengers were detained following the accident and since their release, two have been summonsed and further charges on the remaining passenger are pending, he said. South Portland police Lt.
