Letter: Kudos due to Knightville area (Sept. 19, 2008)

Editor:

I would to respond to a couple of letters that have recently appeared in the Sentry concerning the construction of an office building where the former Beale St. BBQ was located on Waterman Drive in the Knightville area of South Portland.

First of all, I think that Mr. Norton’s comments about Ms. DeAngelis’ letter were more of a personal attack against her rather than constructive criticism of her opinion concerning the business development.  Please remember that we all have the right to voice our opinions whether others agree or not with our point of view.

Next, As far as I am concerned, I think that the building that is being erected actually is going to be an asset to the area.  I actually wish it was located more closely to the end of the Casco Bay Bridge at the “Gateway to the City.” I would rather see that when entering the city rather than the back of the lovely VIP store, or the Sleep Quarters or Blockbuster.  And let’s not forget the Neon Blue NAPA building. Our city leaders showed little to none in the way of forward thinking when they allowed those building to go up along Waterman Drive. I applaud the leaders of the Knightville area, both business and residential, for having a vision of what they wanted Ocean Street to look like and sticking to their guns on that plan. The area looks great and is everything the Waterfront market is not.
