Letter: Ban dogs from Willard Beach (May 16, 2008)
Editor:
Simply put, it’s time to ban dogs from Willard Beach ASAP. This is a health issue mainly and I can’t understand why the beach continues to be a toilet for dogs. Other issues include, but not limited to, taxpayers, humans on the beach, abbuting property owners etc. – for they all trump the dogs. The poor dogs – I’ve owned dogs in the past and they are fine animals and pets, it’s some of the owners I have a problem with. When a dog, off leash, jumps on my wife almost knocking her over and slobbering all over her clothes, it’s out of control. Then when I mentioned where is the voice control, the reply is: If you don’t like it – walk somewhere else – I don’t think so! Now, we don’t walk there at all and this is not right! All dogs need exercise, so bring them to the country. Someone mentioned a soil test – a soil test? This is unnecessary – the dogs pee and poop on the beach and the pee can’t be picked up and I know there are poop remains no matter how good the clean up is. Do you want your children, your grandchildren playing in the sand that was just a toilet for numerous dogs? I think not! Also the abuse of the times says a lot – when was the last time someone was fined $1,000 and paid it? This should be a slam dunk not a political or city council football. Let’s put the ban in effect now so all can enjoy the beach this summer and summers to come.
