Editorial: Great People are all around (Printed Nov. 30, 2007)
Local Rotarians stand bundled, braving the wind and snow
that December brings as they take turns welcoming families seeking
their annual Christmas trees in Mill Creek Park.
Judy Faust, this week's Weekly Interview, spends her days documenting
stories of people living through the Holocaust – survivors whose
history she captures before it is too late.
And, it is almost certain that a volunteer will step up to help the
Navy cadet program continue to thrive in South Portland after reading
this week's page 1 article.
The trio are just a few of the people we have featured in our pages
over the years. However, we know there are countless others deserving
recognition that fall under the radar.
The Sentry hopes to change that. This week marks the start of the
search for this year’s Great Person Award. These are the people that
deserve recognition – the ones who, for the most part remain the
nameless, faceless people who make our communities thrive.
They are the people who spent their time and energy making sure the
communities of South Portland and Cape Elizabeth are places you enjoy
living and working in.
You work with them. You volunteer with them. You coach or attend town
meetings with them. You may even live with them. They are all around us
– and this unique award allows you to let them receive a small token of
the thanks they deserve.
Nominate someone you know today – and let them represent all of the “great people” in the community.
