Letter: Sawyer Street is not a racetrack (Printed Sept. 21, 2007
Editor:
Last Friday was a beautiful warm summer day. It was impossible to be
inside. We were out with the kids in the morning watching the family of
pheasants that had been living in our garden all summer.
Later that day the kids were inside for a rest and I decided to go out
and water my garden. As I made my way out, I saw in the road something
that looked like an animal. After a closer look I saw that it was the
lady pheasant. She had been hit and killed. And just left it there!
What kind of person are you? Sawyer Street is not a racetrack! It runs
through a neighborhood with houses, kids, dogs and bikers. There is
wildlife all around. We worked so hard to save the marsh, now people
are running down the very life living in it.
You are in such a hurry and driving so fast that you hit an animal the
size of a turkey like it was a sparrow – and just drove off! Shame on
you. And shame on all of the people that speed on Sawyer Street.
Please slow down!
Sincerely,
Gloria Nightingale
