Letter: Honor Our Heroes event in South Portland (Printed June 29, 2007)
Editor:
I would like to extend an open invitation to a local event paying tribute to the heroes in our community.
On Saturday (June 30), from 1 to 3 p.m., hundreds of
people will gather for an afternoon of fun, food, and service
recognition at an event in South Portland called, “Honor Our Heroes.”
The event is organized to literally honor those who
serve our community and country, including police, firefighters,
Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics, and members of the armed
services.
The afternoon will provide a respite for “our
heroes” and their families including: games for the kids, food for
everyone, and prizes or gifts provided by South Portland businesses.
The event is organized and staffed by people who
attend The Rock Church. For more information, please check out
www.honorourheros.com.
Honor Our Heroes is an annual event, which in the
past has proven successful. As you can imagine, those being
honored feel blessed and encouraged after seeing first-hand the support
from their community.
The event will be held at Thornton Heights Park,
which is located at the corner of Route 1 and Westbrook Street in South
Portland.
I encourage folks to bring their family and friends to the event for a free afternoon of fun.
