Letter: Success of blood drive shows community honors fallen soldiers (Printed June 15, 2007)

Editor:

South Portland High School and the Maine Blood
Center would like to thank the people of South Portland as well as all
the participating companies that helped in the blood drive on May 31st
at South Portland High School honoring Sergeant Jason Swiger and
Private First Class Angel Rosa, two SPHS graduates who recently lost
their lives in the war in Iraq.

The following companies helped us advertise for the
drive, whether it was putting the information on their front marquee,
spreading the word to their employees or attending the drive and
donating blood:

South Portland High School Key Club, The Thomas
Room, A Best Windows, South Portland Police and Fire Department, South
Portland Community Center, South Portland City Hall, South Portland
Marketplace, South Portland Public Works, Veterans of Foreign Wars and
the South Portland American Legion.

We saw over 85 people and ended with over 60 pints of blood.

It was wonderful to see a community pull together
and show their support for two of their most beloved heroes.

We thank you all for your support. “Give the gift of life… they gave you theirs” – Ms. Valorie Swiger
