Letter: Senator Strimling creating a buzz ahead of 2008 primary (Printed June 8, 2007)

Editor:

Talk about creating a buzz! When in conversation
with anyone lately, and the topic of which candidate they will be
supporting in the Democratic primary comes up, all I hear over and over
is, “Ethan Strimling”, and I can understand why.

Ethan has the ability to see the needs of our state
and fights to work on solutions for these needs. If it’s for civil
rights, higher education, energy independence, tax reform, making sure
Maine’s first responders have the tools they need in the event of an
attack, protecting victims of domestic abuse, or tenants’ rights, you
can rest assured Ethan has been there to better the lives of all
Mainers. He has accomplished these goals not only as a state senator,
but as “Joe citizen” assisting various organizations who champion those
causes.  I especially like the bill he sponsored LD 2116 (An act
to protect victims of domestic abuse) for the simple fact that he acted
when he heard that Maine women weren’t safe. Now, if a convicted abuser
tries to purchase a gun, the survivor and the police will be notified.

The one thing I have noticed is that if someone
talks to Ethan about their concerns he owns it and acts very quickly to
address the issue. Tom Allen’s shoes are hard to fill but I think Ethan
can fill them very well.
