Letter: Don't waste a chance to recycle (Printed Feb. 2, 2007)
Editor:
Today is a Wednesday. It’s garbage/recycling day for
much of South Portland. As I’m driving to work, I see lots of homes
with their garbage bins overflowing with items that could easily be
recycled, yet they haven’t put out a recycle bin. In fact, I’d say over
half the homes have not put out a recycle bin. That’s either lazy or
ignorant. And either way it’s appalling.
I urge those of you who are not recycling to start
doing so in 2007. Take advantage of the curbside recycling service that
South Portland provides. Not a lot of communities have it! And
remember, South Portland provides recycle bins for free, so call City
Hall if you need one.
Start now putting your old newspapers, pizza boxes,
milk jugs, jars and cans into your recycle bin instead of your garbage.
Your children (and your community) will thank you.
