    A party attended by community members, staff, and
Advisory Board Members helped celebrate South Portland Public Library’s
40th anniversary.

    The reading of two winning “My Library Story” essays
shared special feelings in our library’s celebration. Warm, loving,
insightful, and touching are words that come to mind. Emma Kane, fifth
grader at Brown School, and Peg O’Leary, a resident in our community,
were the winning authors.

    Magician Peter Bois did a magical job with his
performance of mystifying and surprising his audience. From toddlers to
elders, Peter held the audience’s attention. 

And, where did he learn about magic tricks? From a book borrowed at his local public library when he was eleven years old!

    Each person who attended left with a magical
feeling. It was heartening to see so many persons so eagerly sharing
this important event honoring South Portland Public Library. Our public
library is a cornerstone of our community. We need our public library
because it fulfills so many needs for so many persons. South Portland
Public Library is the information resources for our community where we
have thoughtful readers, viewers, and listeners.
