Letters: Support for Duddy (Four letters printed Oct. 27)

Duddy can ford divide in Augusta

Editor:

As a Cape resident working in Maine’s Capitol representing a small
business trade association I have a unique perspective on our
legislature.

Over several years I have watched our legislature change. Our Capitol
has become a sea of pessimism and open hostility between political
parties. I have heard the clear message that Maine is anti-business. In
fact in 2005 Maine earned 49th place in the nation in the “Small
Business Survival Index”

Jennifer Duddy understands that government spending is out-of-control
and high taxes are suffocating Maine people and our economy.

Jennifer Duddy brings strong Maine roots and a positive message of
fiscal responsibility to the campaign to represent Cape Elizabeth in
the Maine Legislature.

Jennifer’s positive, can do outlook; her understanding that small
business is our economic engine; her experience as an Assistant
Attorney General and at Legal Services for the Elderly, working with
children and seniors our most vulnerable citizens, will be invaluable
in Augusta.

Perhaps most of all I value her intelligence, advocacy, communication
and negotiation skills to reach across party lines to help solve
complex problems, abilities needed, but rarely seen in Augusta.

While her opponent would seek to add taxes on services, adding taxes is
a common theme in Augusta, I agree with Jennifer’s priorities; economic
recovery through lowering taxes, lowering the high cost of health
insurance, changing the business attitude and fighting for good jobs,
education and the environment.

Jennifer Duddy will represent Cape Elizabeth well.

Supporters feel good about Duddy

I have always considered myself to be loyal to my party, the Democratic
Party. However, in the upcoming election for the House of
Representatives, I find myself supporting not the Democratic candidate,
but rather the Republican candidate, Jennifer Duddy. My husband and I
are an example of a young couple who had to leave Maine to find
employment. We then worked tirelessly to return to our state - it took
us 16 years to get back to Maine! Why is that? I have two children,
whom I worry will also one day have to leave the state to find
employment. I am voting for Jennifer Duddy because she understands
these issues. She is a social moderate who understands the challenges
facing Maine’s economy and our educational system. Jennifer has worked
very hard.

When you hear her speak, which I have, you have the very real sense
that every citizen counts to Jennifer, not just every vote. If Jennifer
is elected, I know I will be well represented in Augusta. Here’s one
Democrat who’s voting the candidate and not the party!

I will be voting for Jennifer Duddy on November 7th. As a small
business owner, father of three young children in Cape Elizabeth
schools and graduate of Cape Elizabeth High, I fear Maine is heading in
the wrong direction. Maine was one of only two states in the Nation to
have a shrinking economy last year. Jennifer Duddy knows that we need
an expanding economy to provide funding for the quality education our
children will need to compete in the 21st century. Jennifer Duddy wants
our children to be able to live and work in Maine when their schooling
is done. She recognizes that Maine’s economy can not be competitive
with our highest in the nation tax burden. It’s time to send someone to
Augusta whose chief concern is the future of our children.

The people of Maine – not Jennifer Duddy- will decide if the Taxpayer
Bill of Rights passes or not. Either way, I want a legislator who
understands Maine’s “tax and spend” problem and who will work hard to
solve it. Jennifer Duddy is a refreshing candidate who does not bow to
fear tactics of those who want to continue spending taxpayer dollars
irresponsibly.

Jennifer Duddy has my vote.

I am a senior citizen who will be voting for Jennifer Duddy this
November. As a lawyer, Jennifer worked for Legal Services for the
Elderly helping seniors who were financially exploited. She understands
the needs of the elderly, many of who live on fixed incomes. Unlike her
opponent, Jennifer does not support extending the sales tax to goods
and services that are not taxed now. I do not want to pay a sales tax
on food or medicines, the two largest groups of untaxed goods nor do I
think putting a sales tax on medical services is an answer to our
health insurance costs.

Jennifer is a listener who knows Maine people. She will do a great job in Augusta.
