Letter: Support for Dill (Printed Oct. 27)

Dill will serve Cape Elizabeth best

Editor:

I am writing in support of Cynthia Dill as our next State
Representative. The qualities in a representative that will best serve
Cape Elizabeth are strong intellect, leadership, and ability to reach
compromise. Cynthia has demonstrated these skills and more in her
numerous service activities in our town. Through her role on the Town
Counsel Cynthia has shown Cape Elizabeth residents that she listens
genuinely and respectfully to all points of view and achieves the
objectives by working collaboratively with all involved. Regarding
TABOR, she has reviewed and researched the initiative carefully and of
her own accord, and has publicly discussed her reasons for not
supporting it.

While clearly recognizing the need for intelligent tax reform to help
improve Maine’s economy, Cynthia knows that Maine can take a more
reasonable approach to provide the relief necessary to taxpayers
without abandoning democratic standards such as majority rule or
diminishing our town’s services. Cynthia has a deep commitment to
making Maine financially and economically strong. She understands
business and principles for economic growth well and sees opportunities
for a stronger economy in research and technology investments.

I value Cynthia’s commitment to protect Maine’s natural resources and
to invest in alternative energy. Another important distinction for me
in this vote is that Cynthia is pro-choice, unlike her opponent, and
believes deeply in social justice issues and in protecting our civil
rights.

For these reasons Cynthia will receive my enthusiastic vote for State Representative on Nov. 7.
