I am writing to urge your support of Jim Soule for South Portland City
Council. As a former South Portland city manager, I had the pleasure of
working with Jim during his previous six years on the council, two of
them as our Mayor. As a city councilor, Jim was responsive to the needs
of all of our residents, yet was also able to place individual issues
in the context of the greater good for the entire community.



As a successful business person, Jim has the judgment and the resolve
to be able to make difficult decisions for our community. Jim is a
community leader who is difficult to label– he does not come to office
with any predetermined agenda and will not favor the interests of any
individual or group over others in the community.



He is open minded and compassionate, approaching each issue
individually and on its own merits. Jim understands that priorities
need to be set and that local government cannot afford to be all things
to all people. Our leaders need to be able to prioritize the programs
and services that are most crucial to the community and cannot shy away
from difficult or unpopular decisions. Jim has proven his abilities in
both business and government and will provide us with the courage and
wisdom that our city council so desperately needs. Jim is well known
for his fairness, wisdom and commitment to serving the South Portland
community. Please join me in supporting Jim Soule for City Council on
November 7th.

The citizens of South Portland are the beneficiaries of the fact that
Jim Soule has decided to “toss his hat into the ring” and seek election
to the South Portland City Council.



Jim brings the strong combination of political experience (former SP
City Councilor and two time Mayor), business savvy (owner of a
successful South Portland based small business)and education (graduate
of Bowdoin College) that set his candidacy apart from his opponent.



Jim Soule’s candidacy is one of proven leadership, strong accomplishment, and outstanding community service.



South Portland faces a number of substantial challenges in the coming
years. I, for one, believe these challenges can be better met with the
keen intellect, proven track record and demonstrated committment to
community that Jim Soule will provide as one of our city councilors.
