Letter: Keanrath is a welcome change (Printed Oct. 20)

Editor:

As a resident of western South Portland, it is exciting and pleasing to
see a new State House candidate who is as down-to-earth and efficient
as Bryan Kaenrath, Democrat for District 124. After eight years of
being served by Kevin Glynn, who seemed o.k. until you looked at his
voting record (which sent shivers down my spine), I am hoping we
finally get someone who will represent the moderate voices of South
Portland in Augusta.

Finally, we might get a representative who can make things happen for
us in Augusta in support of public education and also property tax
relief! With all the talk this year being about what can be done to
help businesses, Bryan recognizes we have too often lost our focus on
what is good for the families of working people like my neighbors and
my wife and me.

Another big reason I’ll be voting for Bryan Kaenrath is that he would
be looking after the rights of people who are not just like me as well.

Kevin Glynn (vacating this seat this year) turned his back on the
overwhelming majority of his constituents to vote against LD 1196, the
Maine Civil Rights Bill. Having Bryan representing us in Augusta will
be a lot different.

Looking back a hundred years from now, our grandchildren will wonder
why we allowed such vile discrimination the same way we wonder who
could possibly support racial segregation or denying women the right to
vote.

We need to improve the quality of life of all Mainers, not just the ones who have been here for five or six generations.

These are a few reasons I will be hoping that there is a big change in Augusta come election night.
