Letter: Those against TABOR need viable alternative (Printed Oct. 13)

Editor:

TABOR and the Palesky Tax Cap proposed a few years ago are responses of
concerned citizens to reverse out of control spending resulting in high
taxes. This had led the State of Maine to being in or close to a
survival condition, although in denial.

Elected officials, and therefore citizens, of towns against TABOR
should publicly voluntarily before Nov. 7, agree to develop and support
actions that will, “limit increases in local government spending to the
rate of inflation plus population growth.”

Because this situation is so serious, I as a senior in my 80th year
will support Jennifer Duddy for House of Representatives in District
121. The key actions intended by Duddy in her program are designed to
reduce our out of control spending, including excessive health
insurance costs, lower high taxes and therefore grow Maine’s economy.
This attitude and action at the State level will assist elected local
officials to achieve necessary efficiencies.

Duddy’s actions will be more effective than the unyielding stance of
her opponent expressed as, “no TABOR for our community.” Tough times
take tough measures, not business as usual!
