Letter: DeAngelis is DeServing (Printed Oct. 13)

By the very nature of the job, members of any city council in Maine are
necessarily focused on local issues, sometimes to the exclusion of
anything else. Some such officials hue to the narrowest of visions,
becoming provincial and insular, and forgetting the larger focus on the
state and nation.
Not so with Rosemarie De Angelis, an incumbent member of the South
Portland City Council, seeking re-election. Her first term record shows
her with an eye on both local and larger perspectives, helping her
council mates focus on the long-term implications of issues facing
them. That is a valued role of true public service.
For example, her efforts to focus public attention on what South
Portland needs to do about revamping its outdated zoning ordinances
shows off her unique style of leadership. We need to continue that
process by re-electing Rosemarie De Angelis.
